Spring 2023 - Patience
EGGS BENEDICT
For this recipe story, I illustrated a tiny chef character named Benny. Benny appears throughout the story with tips and small captions about eggs Benedict recipes.
WELL OPENENER
In the center of each Magnolia journal issue is a large image that captures the theme of that season's issue. This issue's theme was patience. I illustrated each of the clocks below to accompany the poem opposite them.
CROISSANTS
For this recipe story, I was asked to illustrate the different steps of rolling out and forming croissants. To accompany the clean aesthetic of the rest of the story, I made simple line drawings of each step, filled in with a beige that matches the boxes of color that appear throughout the rest of the story.
MAGNOLIA MANIFESTO
Each issue of Magnolia Journal ends with Magnolia's manifesto. For the spring issue, I used gouache paints to create a pattern of moths and other insects to frame the manifesto, and then styled the text within it.
